Message from Prof Peter Mitchell, President ANZSNR

It is a pleasure to write to you for the first time in my new role as President of the ANZSNR.

Dear Colleagues

It is a pleasure to write to you for the first time in my new role as President of the ANZSNR. The last three years have been a particularly busy time for our society, and I would like to again acknowledge the commitment and dedication of our immediate past President, Professor Alan Coulthard over this time.

We have seen the final “go live” of the CCINR - Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Interventional Neuroradiology, a joint collaboration between the ANZSNR, and representatives from the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA) and the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurology (ANZAN). The first phase recognizing the training of existing practitioners has been successfully completed, and the list of candidates who have had their training recognised is available on the website ccinr.org.au. There has been a mail out to heads of hospitals across Australia on behalf of the CCINR informing them of the availability of this important resource.

Our major meeting of 2016 was The Annual Scientific Meeting, held in March at Chateau Elan in The Hunter Valley. I would like to congratulate the joint conveners Dr Jason Wenderoth, Dr Geoffrey Parker and A/Professor Andy Whyte. The meeting was well supported, with a change in format including more concurrent sessions with a focus on both head and neck and neurodiagnostic radiology in parallel with neurovascular and neurointervention. The combined sessions exposed members to activities of our colleagues with different sub-specialty expertise. Selected images and talks are available on the website ANZSNR.org.au

The next ASM is on July 6th – 9th 2017, and will be held in Darwin at The Convention Centre, with Prof Con Phatouros and Dr Andrew Thompson co-conveners. International speakers Professor Christine Glastonbury, Professor of Clinical Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, and Professor Anne Osborn from the University of Utah Hospital, have been confirmed for what is looking to be a very exciting meeting.

For a fourth consecutive year we have decided to keep the annual subscription rate unchanged at $175. Subscriptions are due by January 1, 2017 and can be paid via the College website, a direct link to the site is attached at the end of this letter. As on previous occasions, nominated student members are entitled to free subscription to ANZSNR while they remain in a training position. Student Members will be contacted via email shortly, and are required to confirm at the beginning of each subscription cycle that they are still in a training position.

The ANZSNR look forward to your continued support in 2017.

Professor Peter Mitchell

President, ANZSNR
